teams, projects and participating universities
10 Teams, representing 27 universities from 3 continents and 8 countries, had successfully fulfilled all the project milestones (in the form of technical deliverables) to maintain their qualifications for the SDE19 Competition. Single university Teams as well as Teams representing university partnerships worked hard since early 2018. They had developed their exciting resourse-responsible house concepts, which manifested in full size prototypes in Szentendre in the summer of 2019. The official assembly phase of the prototypes kicked-off on 26 June.
The applications submitted to the SDE19 Call for Teams by 17th November 2017 were judged by an international jury of professional experts. The members of the Selection Committee were jointly selected and delegated by Energy Endeavour Foundation, the organisation designating Szentendre to be the host city of the event, and ÉMI Non-profit Llc. The submitted applications were evaluated and compared based on 23 aspects of review along the following main subject matters:
-
technical innovation and applied design approach;
-
organisation and project planning;
-
sponsorship engagement and team support: financial planning, involvement of existing resources and industrial players, fund raising potential;
-
conceptual inventions, the novelty of the conceptual approach, expectable direct and indirect benefits for the target groups;
-
composition of the professional team, extent of integration in the university curriculum;
-
business potential, risk management, geographical and technological diversity, alignment the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
